Basketball Game Preview: Chatham Central Bears vs. Cummings Cavaliers

Chatham Central is 8-0 against Cummings since January of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Chatham Central Bears will venture away from home to challenge the Cummings Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Cummings took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Chatham Central, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Chatham Central humbled Graham with a 66-30 victory. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 26 points or more this season.

Chloe Scott had a dynamite game for Chatham Central, putting up 30 points along with five boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Scott a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Karaleigh Dodson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Chatham Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Cummings played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Northeast Guilford, falling 45-22. The Cavaliers were down 39-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Chatham Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for Cummings, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Everything came up roses for Chatham Central against Cummings in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 62-16 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chatham Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
