Softball Recap: Three Straight Home Wins for Piute

Piute barely beat Monticello the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Thunderbirds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Buckaroo a 17-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Thunderbirds have won seven matchups by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alayna Severe was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Destri Morrill, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Bostyn Randall also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Piute was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Piute pushed their record up to 10-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Monticello, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Piute will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buckaroo: the pair will be back at it again later today.
