Softball Game Preview: Carbondale Terriers vs. Nashville Hornets

The Carbondale Terriers will take on the Nashville Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carbondale has three straight victories, Nashville has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Carbondale beats Nashville with eight runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Terriers put the hurt on Centralia with a sharp 8-2 win on Tuesday.

Lauren Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lilly Graham was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jasmine Martin was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Nashville duked it out with New Athens in a bug-themed battle on Tuesday. The Hornets took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets.

The victory got Carbondale back to even at 3-3. As for Nashville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
