Baseball Game Preview: Stuart Hall Knights vs. University Red Devils

For the second straight game, Stuart Hall will face off against University. The Knights will square off against the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Stuart Hall 2.9, University 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Stuart Hall had been on an eight-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but University put an end to it on Tuesday. The Knights lost 8-0 to the Red Devils. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

For University's part, they got a great performance from Rohan Hartigan as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Hartigan has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Mattie Grisso and Jett Messenger did most of the damage at the plate: Grisso went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Messenger went 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Grisso is on a roll when it comes to triples, as he's now hit at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 17 consecutive matches.

University pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Stuart Hall, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 13-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Stuart Hall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts.
