Baseball Recap: Irvington Comes Up Short

Irvington lost against Pittsburg back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Irvington Vikings might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-2 to the Pittsburg Pirates, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Irvington got a good showing from Devin Patel, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Patel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brayden Jaksa was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Matthew Forbes also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Even though they lost, Irvington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Irvington's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pittsburg, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Looking ahead, Irvington will host Berean Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Berean Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season. As for Pittsburg, they will head out to take on James Logan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pittsburg also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.6 runs per game.
