Softball Preview: Christian Academy of Knoxville Warriors vs. Heritage Mountaineers

The Christian Academy of Knoxville Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Heritage Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Christian Academy of Knoxville's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Heritage's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

While Christian Academy of Knoxville's win against Grace Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Rams 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Heritage never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bearden on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Bulldogs. The Mountaineers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Elishia Byrd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Portlyn Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Carly Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
