Softball Game Preview: West Covina Bulldogs vs. Rowland Raiders

The West Covina Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Rowland Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rowland took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on West Covina, who comes in off a win.

West Covina is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Garey 15-0 on Friday. The Bulldogs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 23, 2024.

Leslie Baustista made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, West Covina let Danielle Diaz and Sophia Adler run wild. Diaz scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Adler scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Adler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Melina Alvarado, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

West Covina hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Rowland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Charter Oak, falling 10-0.

West Covina's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rowland, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.

Everything went West Covina's way against Rowland in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, as West Covina made off with a 21-6 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
