Baseball Recap: Spruce Mountain Takes a Loss

Spruce Mountain extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 16-1 to the Fryeburg Raiders. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Phoenix couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Fryeburg, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1. The match marked their most dominant win of the season so far.

For Fryeburg's part, Oliver Dean was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Dean was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fryeburg let Jagger Helwig and Alex Allain run wild. Helwig went 2-for-3 with eight RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Allain got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. With that strong performance, Allain is now averaging an impressive 2.7 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Blake, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spruce Mountain will head out to take on Waterville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fryeburg, they will venture away from home to challenge York at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
