Softball Recap: Middle Tennessee Christian Takes a Loss

If Middle Tennessee Christian was riding high fresh off their 15-6 takedown of The Webb School on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars came up short against the Columbia Academy Bulldogs on Saturday, falling 12-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 last Friday.

Kodi Hewitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Middle Tennessee Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sway Rutledge, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Middle Tennessee Christian has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Columbia Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3.

Looking ahead, Middle Tennessee Christian will challenge Providence Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Columbia Academy, they will face off against Zion Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
