Saline is a perfect 6-0 against Skyline since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Hornets will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Saline's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Skyline has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Saline nor Monroe made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Hornets' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 5-0 shutout. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Abby Curtis's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Casey Griffin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Sydney Hastings was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Skyline started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Adrian. They came up short against the Maples on Thursday, falling 19-7.
Camryn Murray and Abby Yuan stepped up to the plate in a big way. Murray went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Yuan went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Saline, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3-1.
Skyline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Saline has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Saline's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Saline took their win against Skyline in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-1 score. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
