Preview: Delta Panthers vs. Basalt Longhorns
Delta and Basalt are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Delta is ranked 156th, while Basalt is ranked 135th).
The third road contest was the charm for Delta, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Moffat County by a score of 71-63 on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Tucker Johnson was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joe Black, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals.
Even though Basalt has not done well against Coal Ridge recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Basalt walked away with a 50-39 victory over Coal Ridge.
Delta's record is now 5-8. As for Basalt, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Delta came up short against Basalt when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 48-36. Can Delta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
