Baseball Recap: Center Vikings vs. Monte Vista Pirates
Center extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Monte Vista Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Saturday.
As for Monte Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.
For Monte Vista's part, Jeremiah Baumgardner and Judah Howe were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Baumgardner tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Howe pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Baumgardner went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Howe got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Chayse Bouet was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Monte Vista: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Mellott, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
