Basketball Game Preview: St. Monica Mariners vs. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors

St. Monica is 2-8 against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The St. Monica Mariners will head out on the road to face off against the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. St. Monica has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

St. Monica took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Serra as St. Monica made off with an 82-56 win. The Mariners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy entered their contest against St. Anthony on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to St. Anthony.

The victory snapped St. Monica's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-8 record. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-8.

St. Monica suffered a grim 80-55 defeat to St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can St. Monica avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
