Softball Game Preview: Florida Christian Patriots vs. Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions

The Florida Christian Patriots will square off against the Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Florida Christian will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on April 14th, then bounced right back against Palmer Trinity on Wednesday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Shaun Fernandez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Kayla Diaz was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Danbee Kim was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Immaculata-La Salle had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 23-7 margin over Ransom Everglades on Tuesday. The Royal Lions' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Florida Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Immaculata-La Salle, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-12 record.

Florida Christian took their victory against Immaculata-La Salle in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
