Baseball Game Preview: Montour Spartans vs. Chartiers Valley Colts

The Montour Spartans will challenge the Chartiers Valley Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Montour fell victim to Thomas Jefferson and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Spartans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Chartiers Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Moon Area 8-6.

Colton Koza made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Chartiers Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Koza was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Colton Prosperi was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Chartiers Valley's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Montour, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-6 record.

Montour couldn't quite get it done against Chartiers Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2022 as they fell 7-3. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
