Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mt. Vernon can now relate to. The game between the Mt. Vernon Wildcats and the Evansville Memorial Tigers didn't end well, with the Mt. Vernon Wildcats falling 73-55. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-31 back in February.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Vernon lost on Friday, don't look at Meyer Robb. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-14 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. Those six assists gave Robb a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryce Clowers, who posted nine points.

Luke Ellspermann continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Evansville Memorial, shooting 4-for-5 from long range and almost dropping a double-double with 36 points and nine rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Ellspermann now owns an excellent 40.3% three-point shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon Schulz, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 10 points.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Evansville Memorial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-6.

Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Evansville Memorial, they have already played their next contest, a 56-43 victory against Evansville Central on the 8th.
