Softball Recap: Avon Victorious

Westlake typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Avon proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Demons. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jordyn Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maria Young, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Katie Heilmann also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Looking ahead, Avon will venture away from home to square off against Elyria at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Westlake, they will welcome Normandy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
