Baseball Game Preview: Hialeah Gardens Gladiators vs. Downtown Doral Dolphins

The Hialeah Gardens Gladiators will challenge the Downtown Doral Dolphins at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hialeah Gardens has six straight victories, Downtown Doral has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Hialeah Gardens hadn't beaten Mater Lakes Academy on the road since April 13, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Gladiators walked away with an 8-3 win over the Bears. With that victory, the Gladiators brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Jerry Sosa, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Castillo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hialeah Gardens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Downtown Doral's offense. They lost 18-0 to Doral Academy on Tuesday.

Downtown Doral's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Hialeah Gardens, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.

Downtown Doral's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hialeah Gardens hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. It's a different story for Downtown Doral, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Hialeah Gardens' hitters?

Hialeah Gardens beat Downtown Doral 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Do the Gladiators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dolphins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
