Baseball Recap: Washington Academy Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Washington Academy strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against the George Stevens Academy Eagles as they made off with a 13-1 victory. The Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

James Welch made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Washington Academy got a massive performance out of Daniel Gardner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Gardner is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Jayden Mahar was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Washington Academy's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for George Stevens Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
