Softball Recap: Amsterdam Comes Up Short

Amsterdam extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 8-0 to the Glens Falls Black Bears. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 16-1 to the Black Bears when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Glens Falls, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average this season.

For Glens Falls' part, Isabella Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Allison McCoy was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Fallyn Bennett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Amsterdam wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 18-3 loss against Queensbury on the 17th. As for Glens Falls, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 29-0 victory against Gloversville on the 17th.
