Basketball Recap: Wayne City Indians vs. Waltonville Spartans
Wayne City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Waltonville Spartans, falling 67-37. The Indians were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.
Wayne City's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Walker, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhyver Tibbs, who put up seven points.
It was another big night for Gage Peterson, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten boards for Waltonville. Peterson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 15 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jagger Mayville, who on his way to 19 points and six rebounds.
Wayne City's loss dropped their record down to 7-21. As for Waltonville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 23-4.
Wayne City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-55 defeat against Norris City-Omaha-Enfield on the 20th. As for Waltonville, they have also already played their next contest, an 80-44 win against Cisne on the 18th.
