Softball Recap: St. Monica Gets the Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only St. Monica walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights 4-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mariners have posted since April 16th.

St. Monica saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maliana Gutierrez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Eva Farris was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.

St. Monica's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.

Coming up, St. Monica will take on Hesperia Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. Academy for Academic Excellence does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
