Softball Recap: Cuthbertson Wins Going Away Against Fort Mill

The Cuthbertson Cavaliers made easy work of the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets on Wednesday and carried off an 8-1 win. Considering the Cavaliers have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Georgia McConnell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexis Juhl, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Petroff, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Cuthbertson is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Fort Mill, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cuthbertson will square off against Porter Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.82 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fort Mill, they will face off against Rock Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
