Softball Game Preview: Oceanside Pirates vs. Clairemont Chieftains

The Oceanside Pirates will take on the Clairemont Chieftains at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Oceanside hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Friday just wasn't the day for Oceanside's offense. They lost 11-0 to Otay Ranch on Friday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Clairemont and Olympian meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Clairemont's pitcher stepped up to hand Olympian a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Chieftains have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

GG Villalpando tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maelea Silao, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Walton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Clairemont now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Oceanside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
