Volleyball Game Preview: Minden Whippets vs. Sandy Creek Cougars

Minden has gone a perfect 6-0 against Sandy Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Whippets will look to defend their home court against the Cougars.

Minden is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Lincoln Lutheran, who was ranked 13th at the time (Minden was ranked 18th). The Whippets fell 3-1 to the Warriors on Tuesday. The Whippets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Minden was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Lincoln Lutheran work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 24-26, 28-26, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Sandy Creek came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since September 13th.

Minden better focus on containing Emersyn Pohlmeier and Morgan Petr as the pair were huge in Sandy Creek's win. Pohlmeier had 15 digs and one assist, while Petr had eight digs.

Minden's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Sandy Creek, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

Minden was able to grind out a solid victory over Sandy Creek in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Whippets repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
