Highland entered their tilt with South Shelby on Friday with 13 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 14. They had just enough and edged the South Shelby Cardinals out 38-35. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 52-48 loss the last time these two teams met.

Callie Mcwilliams and Charlie Roush certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Mcwilliams posted 14 points, while Roush went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points and seven boards. Roush continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayda Lanpher, who scored three points.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. As for South Shelby, they moved to 18-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-36 win against North Callaway on the 3rd. As for South Shelby, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the South Shelby Cardinals challenge the Monroe City Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (South Shelby has won nine straight at home dating back to last season, while Monroe City won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
