Basketball Game Preview: Northwest Indians vs. Springfield Spartans

The Northwest Indians will square off against the Springfield Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northwest has five straight victories, Springfield has 23 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Friday, Northwest didn't have too much trouble with Orrville as they won 73-56. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Red Riders are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Springfield was beaten by Coventry 62-34 on Friday. The Spartans were down 49-23 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Northwest pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.

Everything went Northwest's way against Springfield in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Northwest made off with a 72-50 victory. Will Northwest repeat their success, or does Springfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
