Football Recap: Estevan Gonzales and Cole Mcwhirter Secure Win for Bayfield

Bayfield strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 23-18 W against the Ignacio Bobcats. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bobcats, too.

A big part of Bayfield's win came down to the chemistry between Cole McWhirter and his top target Estevan Gonzales. McWhirter threw for 132 yards and one touchdown on only nine passes while Gonzales gained 65 total yards and two touchdowns. What's more, McWhirter racked up 128.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

One reason for the win was Bayfield's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Kole Domingos was especially locked on to Ignacio's QB and sacked him twice.

Bayfield's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Ignacio, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coincidentally, Bayfield and Ignacio will both be playing Centauri the next time they take the field. The Wolverines will host the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Bobcats will host them at 1:00 p.m. on October 4.
