Soccer Game Preview: Cumberland vs. Franklin

The Cumberland Dukes will venture away from home to face off against the Franklin Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cumberland's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for 12 straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Cumberland had taken Buckingham down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end last Tuesday. The Dukes lost 4-1 to the Knights.

Meanwhile, Franklin and Surry County combined for 22 shots on goal last Monday, which explains the impressive six total goals scored. The Broncos never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. Lavarius Majette was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

The victory made it two in a row for Franklin and bumps their season record up to 7-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two games. As for Cumberland, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Cumberland might still be hurting after the 6-1 defeat they got from Franklin in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dukes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
