Baseball Recap: Avella Comes Up Short

Avella had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 10-6 to make it four. They lost 12-6 to the Carmichaels Mighty Mikes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mighty Mikes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 on Monday.

As for Carmichaels, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. The result was nothing new for Carmichaels, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Carmichaels' part, the team relied heavily on Parker Hewitt, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Hewitt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Andrews, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

While Avella had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
