Baseball Recap: Whitney Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Whitney had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Oakmont Vikings by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Whitney got a good showing from Corden Pettey, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those no hits gave Pettey a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Whitney saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Warner, who scored a run while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Warner a new career-high in hits (four). Another was Josh Mendoza, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Even though they lost, Whitney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakmont only hit six hits.

We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. As for Oakmont, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will challenge Woodcreek at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Oakmont will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak dating back to last season.
