Softball Recap: Century Sets Scoring Season-High Against South Fremont

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Century). They blew past the South Fremont Cougars 20-9 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Diamondbacks brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Ally Evans made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyndsee Ferguson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kennadi Ozburn was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Century hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win got Century back to even at 8-8. As for South Fremont, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Century will be playing at home against Highland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Diamondbacks surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Fremont, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-7 win against Marsh Valley on the 10th.
