Baseball Recap: Citronelle Wins Going Away Against Murphy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Washington County, Citronelle was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Murphy Panthers an 11-0 shutout. That looming 11-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Jaden Stagner was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Stagner was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Citronelle is 2-1 when Stagner posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Curvin Noyd and Garrett Pitts did most of the damage at the plate: Noyd scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Pitts scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Citronelle's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Murphy, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Citronelle will venture away from home to take on Montgomery Catholic at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Murphy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
