Baseball Recap: Wood-Ridge Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hawthorne

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wood-Ridge). They blew past the Hawthorne Bears 15-5 on Saturday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Jack Caprio made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Wood-Ridge: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-6 otherwise. Caprio was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Wood-Ridge got a massive performance out of Lucas Mendoza, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Mendoza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nick Scalera, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Wood-Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wood-Ridge now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Hawthorne, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Wood-Ridge will head out to challenge Lodi at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hawthorne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glen Rock at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
