Football Recap: Lily Mayer Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Rolling Meadows

Fremd won the last time they faced Rolling Meadows and things went their way on Monday too. The Vikings walked away with an 18-7 victory over the Mustangs.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fremd to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lily Mayer, who threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.3% of her passes, and also rushed for 51 yards. Mayer's passing game has become a key predictor of the Vikings' success: the team is undefeated when her passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Suzanna Grosman was Mayer's top target, picking up 84 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Fremd's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. The heavy lifting was done by Payton Kemeny and MacKenzie Drake, who racked up all four sacks between them. Drake is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another thorn in Rolling Meadows' side was Jill Simonian, who made ten total tackles and defended two passes in addition to snagging two interceptions.

Fremd pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.3 points on average over those games. As for Rolling Meadows, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Fremd has already played their next match, a 33-20 win against Hersey on the 17th. As for Rolling Meadows, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-12 loss against Buffalo Grove on the 18th.
