Iowa Colony waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Mayde Creek Rams by a score of 74-63. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Rams are ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mayde Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Gibson, who went 14 for 22 on his way to 32 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was Gibson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daryus Tasby, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points and six rebounds.

Iowa Colony has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for Mayde Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Iowa Colony won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jordan at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Iowa Colony's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. As for Mayde Creek, they and Dickinson will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Dickinson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Mayde Creek likes a good challenge.
