Football Recap: Mira Loma Starts Season with Victory at Home

Mira Loma gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 66-0 victory over the Valley Vikings. The win continues a trend for the Matadors in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Mira Loma's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Deangelo Keys, who threw for 187 yards and five touchdowns on only nine passes. What's more, Keys racked up 100.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Keion Kado was Keys' top target, picking up 112 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Another reason for the win was Mira Loma's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Yaseen Saleh and Jordy Cardozo, who racked up four sacks between them.

Mira Loma will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on West Campus at 7:00 p.m. on September 12. As for Valley, they will head out to face off against Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
