Recap: Douglass Astros vs. Cedar Grove Saints

The Douglass Astros's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 57-50 to Cedar Grove. The matchup was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but Douglass was outscored by Cedar Grove in the second.

Douglass' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Mickell, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Mickell, who scored nine points along with seven assists and three steals.

Cedar Grove found their leader in underclassman Emmanuel Green, who scored 20 points. Norval Rhodes was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Douglass' defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Cedar Grove, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Douglass will head out on the road to face off against Carver at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carver will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 499th, while Douglass is ranked 97th). As for Cedar Grove, they will be playing at home against Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandy Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Cedar Grove likes a good challenge.
