Volleyball Recap: Grosse Pointe South Falls Despite Big Games from Sydney Hoffman and Gabby Divita

Grosse Pointe South entered their match against Romeo on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Blue Devils fell 3-1 to the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 two weeks ago.

Grosse Pointe South started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-29, 28-26, 25-23, 25-18.

Grosse Pointe South's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabby DiVita, who had 33 kills, 28 digs, and three aces, and Sydney Hoffman, who had nine kills and nine digs. DiVita has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 40 times she's played.

Grosse Pointe South's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-8-1. As for Romeo, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7-1.

Coming up, Grosse Pointe South will take on Woodhaven at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Romeo, they will square off against L'Anse Creuse North at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
