Baseball Recap: Wahkiakum Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Wahkiakum ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Ocosta Wildcats. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 5-4 win last Friday.

Cooper Carlson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other pitching news, Parker Leitz and Aiden Scott dominated on the mound. Leitz tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Scott struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Leitz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Rusty Morrison, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Israel Velke, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Wahkiakum kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Wahkiakum is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Ocosta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-9.

Coming up, Wahkiakum will face off against Rainier at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Mules surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ocosta, they will square off against Non Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
