Baseball Recap: Columbia Drops Season-High Score on East Marion

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia). They put the hurt on the East Marion Eagles with a sharp 22-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Joseph White looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Dillon Rowley was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. JP Haddox was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Columbia's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9. As for East Marion, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Columbia will venture away from home to square off against Loyd Star at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for East Marion, they will host Salem at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
