Douglas is a perfect 10-0 against McQueen since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will face off against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Douglas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Douglas heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (7-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Ida Martin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, McQueen faced Carson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Lancers came out on top against the Senators by a score of 8-5.
Violet Moyao was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Moyao was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Bein, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ashlyn Guber was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
McQueen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Douglas, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-9.
McQueen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Douglas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for McQueen, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 strikeouts. Will Douglas keep running through batters, or will the Lancers buck the trend?
Douglas came out on top in a nail-biter against McQueen when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
