MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings

Look for many changes after this weekend's Durango Invitational.

Mater Dei won seven matches last weekend in the Dave Mohs Southern California Tournament to remain unbeaten and strengthen its hold atop this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

The biggest mover of the week was Sacred Heart, previously ranked No. 1 earlier this season, which jumped from No. 22 to No. 8 after winning the prestigious Louisville Invitational Tournament.

New to Top 25 this week are St Joseph Academy (Frontenac, Mo.), Mother McAuley (Chicago), Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.), Lakeville South (Minn.) and Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.).



All eyes will be on Las Vegas for the the 22nd-annual Durango Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday, where eight of MaxPreps' top 25 teams will be participating, including Assumption, Walton, Torrey Pines, Archbishop Mitty, Fayetteville, Flintridge Sacred Heart, Redondo Union and Sacred Heart. Previously ranked Mira Costa (Calif.), Pleasant Grove (Utah) and Santa Margarita (Calif.) are also entered.

All total, 72 teams from 11 states will be competing.

1. (1 last week) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 11-0
The Monarchs won seven matches over the weekend to win the Dave Mohs Tournament and have outscored their opponents 26-2. Senior Shannon Scully is averaging five kills per set and senior Taylor Cope is averaging 1.4 blocks per set.

2. (2) Fayetteville (Ark.), 11-0
The Bulldogs swept the field to win their own tournament. Seniors Faith Waitsman and Ella May Powell are averaging better than a block per set.

3. (5) Oak Ridge (Conroe, Texas), 30-0
The War Eagles beat Kelin 3-1 and have outscored their foes 68-10 this season. Led by Brooke Clark (4.2), five players are averaging two kills or better per set.

4. (6) Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), 4-0
The Huskies have won 12 of 14 sets. Next up is 4-1 Desert Vista (Phoenix), featuring 6-4 Abigail Hansen (better than a block per set) and All-American libero Kendall Glover (5.4 digs per set).



5. (8) Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.), 27-0
The Red Raiders beat nine teams to win the River City Rumble, as Gabby Gray totaled 83 kills, 41 digs, seven blocks and four aces in the two-day tournament while Sarah Sumida recorded 225 assists in addition to 28 digs, 14 kills, 13 aces and five blocks. Ally Craig added 48 kills, 48 digs, six blocks and 10 aces.

6. (9) Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.), 3-0
The Hornets have opened the season with ease, outscoring their foes 6-0 (150-75).

7. (11) Blue Valley West (Stilwell, Kan.), 10-0
The reigning state large school champions are 20-1 in sets this season and went 6-0 in winning the prestigious Mo-Kan Tournament last weekend.

8. (22) Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.), 10-1
The Valkryries captured the Louisville Invitational and defeated nationally ranked Assumption and Walton in the process.

9. (4) Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), 14-2
The Rockets lost to Sacred Heart in the finals of the Louisville Invitational, and in beating St. Joseph's earlier in the tournament, coach Ron Kordes won his 1,000th career victory.

10. (13) Geneva (Ill.), 8-0
Mikayla Lanasa is averaging 9.3 assists per sets as Geneva has yet to lose a set this season.



11. (15) Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock, Ill.), 11-0
In going 5-0 to win the Jacobs Invitational, the Hurricanes ran their win streak to 17. McKayla Wuensch is averaging 10.2 assists per set.

12. (12) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), 5-1
The defending state champs lost to No. 1 Mater Dei, 3-0, but have five quality wins.

13. (19) Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio), 9-0
Led by 6-2 middle Lauren Witte (Ohio State commit), the Cougars have yet to lose a set.

14. (14) Torrey Pines (San Diego), 1-0
Averaging 17 kills per set, the Falcons opened the season beating Cathedral Catholic (San Diego), 3-0.

15. (16) Flintridge Sacred Heart (La Canada-Flintridge, Calif.), 5-0
The Tologs defeated Valencia and Claremont in tuning up for the Durango Classic.

16. (18) Boyd (McKinney, Texas), 25-4
Boyd has won nine in a row and lost just one set during the streak.



17. (20) Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), 1-0
The defending state champions opened the season with a 3-1 win over Bishop Montgomery.

18. (NR) Mother McAuley (Chicago), 9-0
Led by junior outside hitter Charley Niego, Mother McAuley won every set last week in improving to 9-0. In 12 sets, Niego has averaged 7.5 kills, 5.1 digs and blocked nine shots.

19. (24) Eagan (Minn.), 8-0
The Wildcats, led by Brie Orr, captured the Shakopee Tournament to run their record to 8-0.

20. (NR) Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.), 20-0
Led by 6-3 sophomore Thayer Hall, the Cavaliers went 9-0 to win their own Tournament of Champions and defeated teams from four states. They did not lose a set in the nine matches.

21. (NR) Lakeville South (Minn.), 8-0
Senior Jenny Mosser (7.5 kills per set) has the Cougars out to a 19-1 advantage in set play this season. Junior setter Sydney Case is averaging 12.1 assists per set.

22. (10) Yorktown (Ind.), 14-1
Since losing, the Tigers have won four straight.



23. (NR) Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.), 12-0
With seven players 6 feet or taller, the Pumas picked off Desert Vista (Phoenix) and Horizon (Scottsdale) to run their record to 12-0.

24. (NR) St. Joseph's Academy (St. Louis), 6-1
St. Joe placed third at the Louisville Invitational, losing only to No. 9 Assumption (Louisville), but beat then-No. 3 Walton (Ga.), 2-0.

25. (3) Walton (Marietta, Ga.), 20-2
Seeing their two-year win streak of 35 end, the Raiders finished fourth at Louisville, going 3-2 and losing to tournament champion Sacred Heart (Louisville), 2-1.

Dropped out: Cathedral (Indianapolis), Dakota (Mich.), Divine Savior Holy Angels (Wisc.), Northville (Mich.), Pleasant Grove (Utah).
