Softball Recap: Milton Comes Up Short

Milton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Waunakee on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 9-7. Red Hawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Warriors since Tuesday.

Kylee Buttchen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Marquardt, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Milton has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Waunakee, their victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Milton and Waunakee should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Red Hawks will square off against Baraboo at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (107 vs. 263). Meanwhile, Waunakee (ranked 21st) will meet DeForest (ranked 150th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
