Basketball Game Preview: Woodson Warriors vs. Banneker Bulldogs

Woodson is 0-7 against Banneker since December of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Woodson Warriors will face off against the Banneker Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Woodson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: McKinley Tech, who was ranked 17th at the time (Woodson was ranked 18th). Woodson fell 56-45 to McKinley Tech back in January. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trainers 13-4 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Banneker played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 59-38 to Coolidge. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Colts recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Woodson will need to focus on slowing down Imani Diallo, one of several Banneker players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Diallo is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted three or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. Rainelle McNeil was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Banneker's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Woodson, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Woodson might still be hurting after the 50-26 defeat they got from Banneker when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of McNeil, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.
