Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Silver Lake

Silver Lake extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 4-1. They strolled past the Gibbon Buffaloes with points to spare, taking the game 63-49. Surprisingly, this marked the Mustangs' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Silver Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Beau Bonifas, who posted 15 points along with five assists and five boards. Those 15 points gave Bonifas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon TenBensel, who scored 15 points and six rebounds.

Silver Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

As for Gibbon, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4. On the bright side, the 49- point effort marked their highest-scoring contest to date.

When it comes to explaining why Gibbon lost, don't look at Keaton Heikkinen. Despite the final result, he put up 11 points and five steals. Tanner Nietfeld also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Looking ahead, Silver Lake is taking a road trip to challenge Kenesaw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will be up against the Blue Devils' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Gibbon and Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] will compete for holiday cheer at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
