Lejeune hasn't had much luck against Pamlico County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lejeune Devil Pups will welcome the Pamlico County Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m.
Lejeune is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Wednesday. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dixon.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Madison McQueen, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jane Gwinn, who put up nine points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pamlico County posted their closest victory since December 22, 2023 on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 win over Havelock. The 42-point effort marked the Hurricanes' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Pamlico County found their leader in sophomore Sydney Whitley-Reese, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Whitley-Reese has scored at least a third of Pamlico County's points. Nya Clark was another key player, going 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points and three steals.
Pamlico County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive games.
Pamlico County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for Lejeune, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lejeune has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pamlico County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lejeune lost to Pamlico County at home by a decisive 57-42 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Lejeune avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
