Volleyball Recap: Juneau-Douglas Beats Ketchikan for Their Third Straight Win

Juneau-Douglas had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Ketchikan Kings with a sharp 3-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

While Juneau-Douglas won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-16, 25-19.

Lavinia Ma'Ake paced Juneau-Douglas' offense, picking up 12 kills. Ma'Ake got some help from Liliane Veikoso and her 23 assists. Finally, Gwen Nizich kept Juneau-Douglas' defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Juneau-Douglas' win bumped their record up to 24-18-7. As for Ketchikan, they dropped their record down to 2-19-4 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Juneau-Douglas beat the Kings by a score of 3-0 on Saturday.
