Recap: Bluffton Bobcats vs. Hilton Head Island Seahawks
The Bluffton Bobcats had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.2 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 51-35 victory over Hilton Head Island. Given Bluffton's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Hilton Head Island is ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tacoya Heyward was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six steals and three blocks. Heyward is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'laina Mosley, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Several Seahawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leah Jackson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Deja Godsun was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Bluffton's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Hilton Head Island, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Bluffton will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lucy Beckham at 6:00 p.m. Lucy Beckham is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. As for Hilton Head Island, they will head out on the road to take on Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colleton County has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
