Basketball Recap: Rocori Comes Up Short

Rocori was the 83-53 winner over Monticello when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rocori Spartans lost 80-57 to the Monticello Magic on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered against the Magic since January 21, 2019.

Jackson Soroko continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Monticello, going 10 for 17 en route to 28 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, Soroko now owns an excellent 40.3% three-point shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhys Nebben, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Rocori dropped their record down to 6-13 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Monticello, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Rocori has already played their next contest (against Sartell-St. Stephen), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Monticello, they will take on Big Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Monticello's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 matches.
